Calling All Cooks!

Are you interested in cooking a meal for patients and their families? The "American Cancer Society (ACS)- Hope Lodge" and the "Ronald McDonald House (RMH)" provide opportunities for groups to cook homemade dinner or brunch for families currently recieving healthcare services in the local area. If you can cook, clean or just buy groceries please get involved. We need up to 10 volunteers and around $250. Do you want to lead one of these cooking projects? Welcome!

The MHA Class of 2008 is excited to initiate the MHA Community Stewardship Initiative. Our objective is to promote structured opportunities for MHA students to learn and further develop the skills and abilities involved with community stewardship and the promotion of community service leadership and civic engagement.

We envision the development of these leadership attributes through executive interaction, voluntary participation and coordination of activities in partnership with nationally recognized, not-for-profit organizations which serve the health and welfare needs of society. We encourage each MHA Class to adopt the fundmental intent of the initiative and build upon this framework to continue community efforts which compliment the unique character, interests and needs of your respective class. The beneficial outcomes of such perpetual dedication and mangement will be recognized by each participating student, the MHA Program and the members of the community.

This Blog is meant to help coordinate and communicate our collective work to provide a dynamic range of volunteer services to those in need while building lasting relationships with community leaders and organizations throughought the Twin Cities and other areas.

Suggested Questionnaire Guidelines

Overview: After you are familiar with the initiative intent and objectives, establish contact with the designated organizations to inform volunteer administrators of our goals and to solicit immediate involvement with activities and to investigate opportunities for a long-term partnership.

Please follow a consistent format for these conversations. The proposed examples should help you facilitate the exchange between the MHA student and the organization:
First: Introduce yourself and the program-
· University of Minnesota, Masters in Healthcare Administration.
· Emphasis in building strong, responsible leaders and problem solvers.
· Ranked number 2 in the Country (etc.).

Second: Describe the initiative
· Basic Overview
· Identify the Objectives

Third: Immediate Goals (What you would like from them)
· Become immediately involved with existing activities
· Use outreach to gain lasting relationships with specific community organizations

Example Key Questions:
· What are some current options for a professional student group such as ours regarding volunteer work?
· What about future opportunities to continue volunteering with the organization?
· What types of relationships would you expect to build from an initiative such as the one I have just described?
· Would this type of relationship be beneficial to both the organization and the University of Minnesota MHA program?

Key take-aways:
· We would like to cultivate a lasting relationship with the organization
· The main goal is to provide consistent, perpetual service for the community through this and subsequent generations of MHA students.

Commitments:
· Let them know that you will follow up regarding the items discussed
